Covid-19: WHO gives guidelines on hand sanitisers, how much to use and how often

Who would have thought sanitisers would come to play such an important role in our lives? Today, hand sanitisers have become extremely crucial to prevent the transmission of the deadly coronavirus.

Recently, World Health Organisation (WHO) shared some useful tips and facts to keep in mind while using an alcohol-based hand sanitiser. Take a look.

It is safe to use alcohol-based sanitisers as only a small amount of alcohol is absorbed into the skin. Most of them contain emollients that have a soothing effect on the skin.

One can use hand sanitisers frequently, but WHO recommends cleaning your hands with soap and water whenever possible. Sanitiser can be used in addition to this or when washing isn't an option.

Touching a communal bottle of hand sanitiser will not infect you. Once you have sanitised your hands, you have disinfected them from any germs that may have been on the bottle. If everyone uses sanitiser in a public place, the risk of germs on communal items will be lower and will keep everyone safe.

Wearing gloves could risk the transfer of germs from one surface to another. You may also end up contaminating your hands while removing them. If you are wearing gloves, make sure to sanitise your hands after their removal.

How to use hand sanitiser correctly?

Apply a palmful of sanitiser to cover all surfaces of the hands. Rub your hands together until they are dry, the entire procedure should last for 20-30 seconds.
