ROME, Aug 13 (AP) — A tragic incident unfolded off the Italian island of Lampedusa as a boat transporting nearly 100 migrants capsized, resulting in the deaths of at least 20 individuals and leaving another dozen missing, according to the UN refugee agency's report on Wednesday.

Filippo Ungaro, UNHCR's spokesman in Italy, confirmed that 60 survivors have been rescued and brought to a facility in Lampedusa.

Based on the accounts from those who endured the ordeal, the vessel set sail from Libya with between 92 and 97 migrants aboard.

Authorities have thus far recovered 20 bodies and continue their search for an additional 12 to 17 individuals who remain unaccounted for, as per the UNHCR's information. (AP)
