The story of Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal moves from Mumbai to Goa for the 2025-26 Ranji season. Citing personal reasons, the shift seems amiable. Jaiswal’s skill is a significant morale boost for Goa, now in the Elite division.

The story of Yashasvi Jaiswal

Yashasvi Jaiswal will play for Goa from the next season! Yes, you have read that right.

In a surprising move, Indian cricket’s rising star Yashasvi Jaiswal has decided to part ways with Mumbai and join Goa for the 2025-26 Ranji Trophy season. The move comes as Goa secures its place in the Elite division, marking a fresh chapter in Jaiswal’s already inspiring cricketing journey.

“It was a very tough decision for me. Whatever I am today is because of Mumbai. The city has made me who I am, and all my life, I will be indebted to the MCA,” Jaiswal said when asked about his move.

What led to the Goa Move?

Jaiswal wrote an email to Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) seeking a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to change his cricket state team. “He has sought a NOC from us and has cited that the reason for his move to Goa as personal,” a source in the MCA confirmed.

As an all-format player for India, Jaiswal’s participation in domestic cricket is sporadic—he played just one Ranji Trophy match last season. Despite this, GCA secretary Shambu Desai believes his presence will be a massive morale booster for the squad. Goa is also looking to add another seasoned professional to strengthen their team.

The Mumbai Exit: Any Controversy?

Jaiswal’s last appearance for Mumbai was in the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy against Jammu & Kashmir, where he scored 4 and 26 in a losing cause. He was set to play in the semi-final against Vidarbha but was ruled out due to an ankle injury.

MCA secretary Hadap dismissed any speculation about controversy surrounding his withdrawal from the crucial match.

Mumbai, with its record 42 Ranji Trophy titles, remains the most successful domestic team in India. Jaiswal made his mark in Mumbai’s senior team in the 2019 Vijay Hazare Trophy with a series of impressive performances.

He later continued his stellar form in the Ranji Trophy, scoring three consecutive centuries in Mumbai’s 2021-22 campaign.

Establishing Himself as a Star for India

Since making his Test debut in 2023 against West Indies, where he scored 171 runs, Jaiswal has consistently delivered on the international stage.

He became only the second Indian batter, after Sunil Gavaskar, to score 700+ runs in a Test series (against England in 2023-24).

His heroics in Australia, including a match-winning 161 in Perth, have further solidified his place in the team. He is no doubt a strong contender for a long-term role in ODIs once the senior players step aside.

IPL Journey: Rajasthan Royals’ Retained Star

Jaiswal has been an integral part of Rajasthan Royals since being signed in 2020. In IPL 2023, he set the record for the fastest fifty in tournament history, reaching the milestone in just 13 balls against KKR. He finished the season with 625 runs.

In IPL 2024, he scored 435 runs, leading Rajasthan Royals to retain him for INR 18 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction.

What This Move Means for Jaiswal and Indian Cricket

A domestic team switch is unlikely to impact Jaiswal’s place in the Indian team, but his leadership role with Goa presents a new opportunity for growth. Whether this move strengthens his case for future leadership roles in Indian cricket remains to be seen.

How did it all start for Yashasvi Jaiswal?

Jaiswal, originally from Uttar Pradesh, moved to Mumbai at the age of 11 with dreams of making it big in cricket. From selling pani puris to spending nights in a tent at Azad Maidan, his story is a perfect example of relentless struggle and determination.

The city’s historic maidans polished his raw talent. honed his skills and helped him grow into the cricketer he is today. However, the 23-year-old is now ready to embrace a new challenge with Goa.

A Bold Decision at the Peak of His Career

Unlike many who leave Mumbai towards the end of their playing days, Jaiswal is making the switch while at the peak of his career.

With 1,798 runs in 19 Test matches at a remarkable average of 52.88, he is considered one of India’s most promising batters.
