T20 World Cup 2022: World reacts to Ireland's incredible upset over England

The invincible luck of the Irish was at work as Ireland stunned the Englishmen at the T20 World Cup on Wednesday. The rain gods and Joshua Little's magic worked for Andrew Balbirnie's side. And, England suffered a 5-run heartbreaker at the MCG.

Reactions on social media poured in as netizens recalled the number of times the Irish have spoiled the Three Lions' plans on the world stage.

A meme fest began while some others drew comparisons that apparently work in India's favour.

When Kevin O'Brien's heroics defeated England in 2011 by 3 wickets during the ODI World Cup, India won the trophy. And drawing a clear parallel, some fans were wondering if history would repeat itself!

The Barmy Army was also subjected to some brutal trolling after the team won the match via the DLS method. Calling out their 'spirit of the game', several fans mocked the group for 'crying more than the rain in Melbourne'

From Michael Vaughan to Virender Sehwag, several cricket stars congratulated the Ireland cricket team for their incredible performance.

While Vaughan said, 'Ireland have now hammered the West Indies & now beaten England .. Throughly deserved. England haven’t been good enough today .. No excuses at all .. Ireland far superior with the Ball', Sehwag had a fun take. The ex-Indian cricketer tweeted, 'With some help fro mm rain off course but Ireland beating England by 5 runs'

Congratulating the winners, Amit Mishra remarked, 'Hope England doesn’t say winning through DLS isn’t in the spirit of the game' Former Australian cricketer Brad Hogg too, praised the team's performance and wrote, 'Group 1's elite topples over to the luck of the three leaf clover!'
