R Praggnanandhaa: Indian Grandmaster wins Super GM chess tournament in Hungary

R Praggnanandhaa, the 17-year-old Indian Grandmaster, showcased his brilliance in the V Geza Hetenyi Memorial Super GM chess tournament 2023, emerging as the champion. The young prodigy scored an impressive 6.5 points, securing a clear first position in the highly competitive 10-player event.

After nine intense rounds of play, Praggnanandhaa finished a point ahead of M Amin Tabatabaei from Iran and Russia's Sanan Sjugirov. Throughout the tournament, Praggnanandhaa demonstrated remarkable skill and consistency, posting five wins, three draws, and only one defeat, which came at the hands of Amin Tabatabaei in the fifth round.

In the final round, the talented Indian GM secured a draw against Polish GM Radoslaw Wojtaszek, showcasing his ability to hold his ground against strong opponents.

With this victory, R Praggnanandhaa has achieved a live rating of 2707.3, further solidifying his position as one of the rising stars in the world of chess.

His impressive wins came against formidable opponents, including Sjugirov, Parham Maghsoodloo from Iran, Adam Kozak from Hungary, and Peter Prohaszka from Hungary.
