The Union Budget 2023 brings up a big boost for the Sports Ministry in terms of revised allocations

The ministry's flagship programme, 'Khelo India -- National Programme for Development of Sports' continues to be the government's priority, with it being allotted Rs 1,045 crore.

&nbsp;In a year when the Indian athletes will compete at the Asian Games and prepare for 2024 Paris Olympics, the Sports Ministry has got a fillip with the government allocating Rs 3,397.32 crore, an increase of Rs 723.97 crore, in the Union Budget on Wednesday.
The amount is more than the revised budget of the previous financial year (2022-23) when the ministry received Rs 2,673.35 crore, as against the actual allocation of Rs 3,062.60 crore.
One of the reasons for the reduced revised allocation for 2022-23 could be the postponement of the Hangzhou Asian Games, which will be held this year.
An increase of Rs. 439 crore for Khelo India has brought the sports budget to a new high of Rs. 3,397.32 crore. Khelo India&rsquo;s budget of Rs. 1,045 crore accounts for just under a third of the total allocation as well.

German tennis player Alexander Zverev will not face disciplinary action after an investigation into domestic abuse allegations against him found "insufficient evidence" to substantiate the claims, the men&rsquo;s professional tour said on Tuesday.
The ATP had commissioned the investigation in October 2021 after Zverev's former girlfriend, Olya Sharypova, accused the 2020 U.S. Open runner-up of abuse.
"Based on a lack of reliable evidence and eyewitness reports, in addition to conflicting statements by Sharypova, Zverev and other interviewees, the investigation was unable to substantiate the allegations of abuse, or determine that violations of ATP&rsquo;s On-Site Offenses or Player Major Offenses rules took place," the ATP said in a statement.
The 25-year-old Zverev, who won the singles gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics, has always denied the accusations. He is currently ranked 14th.
Although no disciplinary action will be taken, the ATP said it would reevaluate the determination "should new evidence come to light, or should any legal proceedings reveal violations of ATP rules."

After losing the first set, Tsitsipas fought hard to find a comeback in the match but was defeated in straight sets after two tiebreak losses.

A year ago he was deported from Australia empty handed following a visa fiasco but Novak Djokovic finished what he couldn't start in 2022 and lifted his 10th Australian Open title on Sunday.
The Serbian got the better of Stefanos Tsitsipas and beat him in straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (4), 7-6 (5) at the Rod Laver Arena.
Djokovic is now level with his long-time rival Rafael Nadal at 22 Grand Slam titles, the most by any man on the planet.
After losing the first set, Tsitsipas staged a comeback but his fightback was short-lived. He was eventually defeated after two tiebreak losses in the next two sets.
With the win, Novak Djokovic also regained the World number 1 position.

The Indian Davis Cup team was on Saturday relegated to the World Group II for the first time since the new format was launched in 2019 after losing the play-off tie 2-3 to Denmark, who were single-handedly carried by Holger Rune as the world number nine won three matches for the hosts.
The tie levelled at 1-1, India needed to win the doubles but the pair of Yuki Bhambri and Rohan Bopanna lost 2-6 4-6 in just 65 minutes to the home team combo of Rune and Johannes Inglidsen.
The equation requiring India to win both the reverse singles to stay in World Group I, Nagal put a brave fight but lost 5-7 3-6 in one hour and 37 minutes in the first reverse singles.
That defeat gave Denmark an unassailable 1-3 lead and pushed India to World Group II.
Prajnesh Gunneswaran then took court in the dead rubber against Elmer Moeller and won 6-4 7-6(1) in one hour and 39 minutes. On Friday, Nagal had erased a one-set deficit to pip August Holmgren 4-6 6-3 6-4 in two hours and 27 minutes to make it 1-1 after Bhambri lost the opening singles 2-6 2-6 to the rising teen sensation Rune.
