The veteran pugilist, who had torn her anterior cruciate ligament after twisting her left knee during the Commonwealth Games selection trials last year, underwent a reconstructive surgery to repair the ACL tear in August.
"What happened during the Commonwealth Games trials was very unfortunate. I suffered a major injury and I had to undergo a surgery," Mary said at the unveiling of the Indian team jersey ahead of the women's World Championship.
"I'm trying to come back soon. Because I have only this year, next year I'll be forced to retire. So this year I want to compete in any competition before the retirement." According to the rules, the maximum participation age for a boxer is 40 years and the Manipuri will turn 41 in November.
However, in order to be selected for the marquee-event, the London Olympics bronze medallist will have to go through the new selection process, which requires a boxer to go through an evaluation test in the national camp.

The committee formed by the Indian Olympic Association to probe sexual abuse allegations against sidelined WFI chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh is yet to submit its report and IOA president P T Usha said it is taking time since &ldquo;it is a sensitive issue&rdquo;.
&ldquo;It (report) is not finalised, it is going on. We have met the players (wrestlers). The (IOA) committee will finalise and give the report to the IOA later." PT Usha told PTI.
&ldquo;It is a sensitive issue and it has to be done in a good way. Very soon we will do that,&rdquo; she said when asked if there is any deadline for submitting the report.
The IOA had on January 20 formed a seven-member committee headed by legendary boxer MC Mary Kom to investigate the allegations of sexual harassment against the WFI president by some of the country&rsquo;s top wrestlers.
Singh had appeared before the oversight committee of the government on February 28 and had outrightly rejected all the charges.

Speaking to the news agency PTI, India's first F1 driver Narain Karthikeyan reckoned that the Formula E championships will provide the much-needed buzz to the stagnating motorsport in the country.&nbsp;
However, Karthikeyan feels that a lot more needs to be done for the sport to flourish in India.&nbsp;
India last hosted a major motorsport event back in 2013, when the third Indian Grand Prix Formula 1 race was held in Greater Noida.

At the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, Fosbury took off at an angle, leaped backward, bent himself into a J shape to catapult his 6-foot-4 frame over the bar, then crashed headfirst into the landing pit.
It was a convention-defying move, and with the world watching, Fosbury cleared 2.24 meters (7 feet, 4 1/4 inches) to win the gold and set an Olympic record. By the next Olympics, 28 of the 40 jumpers were using Fosbury's technique.
The Montreal Games in 1976 marked the last Olympics in which a high jumper won using a technique other than the Fosbury Flop.
