Court orders Djokovic to be released, can play Australian Open

Its Game, set & match for Novak Djokovic as the Serbian tennis ace won the contest in the court room against the Australian government which had cancelled his visa to play in the Australian Open 2022. The court led by Judge Anthony Kelly slammed the Aussie government and ordered for an immediate release of the Serbian tennis star from the state detention center in Melbourne.

The court has also asked the government to pay for damages, costs of hotel for Djokovic and his team along with returning his passport and personal belongings immediately. While this clears the way for Djokovic to play at the Australian Open, the government could still cancel his visa despite the win in the courtroom.

In a bid to win a record breaking 21st Grand Slam, World Number 1 Novak Djokovic had landed in Melbourne to defend his Australian Open crown on Thursday but was immediately put in a detention at a refugee hotel. Djokovic according to reports failed to put out his vaccination details as the Australian Border Force didn't accept his medical exception certification.
