New Zealand vs India: Champions Trophy final clash in Dubai

New Zealand, led by Mitchell Santner, is preparing for a crucial showdown against India in the Champions Trophy final in Dubai. Having triumphed over India in two previous ICC finals, specifically the 2000 Champions Trophy and the 2021 ICC Test Championship, New Zealand aims to secure their third ICC title against India.

Former England captain, Nasser Hussain, believes that New Zealand, with their blend of seasoned veterans and youthful talent, poses a formidable challenge. "Players like Kane Williamson bring vast experience, while emerging stars like Rachin Ravindra add fresh energy. New Zealand may lose, but it will take a strong performance from India to best them," Hussain commented to Sky Sports Cricket.

Both teams have a history of intense battles in ICC tournament knockouts, with New Zealand winning the 2019 World Cup semi-final and India claiming victory in the 2023 World Cup semi-final. Earlier in the current tournament, New Zealand faced a 44-run defeat against India in the group stages but rebounded with a decisive 50-run win over South Africa in the semi-finals, setting the stage for their clash with India.

Recalling insights from a conversation with ex-Australian captain Aaron Finch, Hussain emphasized New Zealand's consistently strong performances. “New Zealand doesn't falter easily. As Finch pointed out, they are a team that reliably delivers and never defeats themselves,” said Hussain.

Highlighting their remarkable consistency, New Zealand has reached the latter stages in the last three ODI World Cups, contesting the finals in 2015 and 2019 and the semi-finals in 2023. "New Zealand's roster features resilient cricketers who give their all every game, which is why they frequently appear in semi-finals and finals," Hussain remarked.

As the teams prepare for Sunday's final, the anticipation is high for a fiercely competitive match-up on the global stage.
