Uttarakhand&rsquo;s Suraj Singh broke the 1,000m national youth record to hog the limelight on the final day of the National Youth Athletics Championships here on Wednesday.
The boys 1,000m race at the Patliputra Sports Complex turned out to be the most exciting event of the day as the top two runners ran better than 15-year-old national youth record of 2 minute 27.20 seconds which was set by Rahul Pal in 2010.
Singh&rsquo;s gold-winning time was 2:26.04, while silver winner Vikas Kumar of Uttar Pradesh clocked 2:26.59 to also dip below the earlier national youth record.
Sohit Vijender of Haryana won the bronze with a time of 2:27.27 which was better than the meet record of 2:28.89 clocked last year by Md Nooruddin in Bilaspur.
The boys javelin throw gold went to Himanshu of Haryana whose best effort was 72.00m.
Misti Karmakar of West Bengal took home the girls javelin throw gold with a distance of 45.04m.

Those were not unusual scenes after such a resplendent night. Beyond the obvious, that footage carried a profound inner meaning for the troika. Few individuals in the last six months have been hounded as much as Gambhir, Rohit and Kohli after the team's largely ordinary run.
While the criticism might have had some merit in it, the way it was directed at them was not justified. But now, they have a lifeline, a firmer ground to control their own destiny and a much clearer path to the future for the team.
It came after wholehearted trust in the process that the management set in place before this event, as indicated by Rohit.
"Someone was telling me that we've lost only one game in the last three ICC tournaments. So, it's a great milestone to have. So, it shows a lot of quality in the team, a lot of depth, a lot of understanding within the group," skipper Rohit said after the title triumph on Sunday night.
Rohit said that attitude helped the team to ward off external &ldquo;pressure.&rdquo; "There's too much pressure from outside. If India loses one game. There's so much speculation that happens. But, the boys have actually managed to put that aside and focus on how to win games and how to enjoy the game," he added.
Rohit was the first one to be targeted because of the way he got out after making those seemingly invaluable 30s and 40s in the longer versions of the game.
The 37-year-old saw a different side to it after making a match-winning 76 against New Zealand in the title clash.
"See, representing India is not a joke. Everyone wants to represent India with a lot of integrity. I contributed a lot in the 2019 World Cup, but we didn't win. So, it wasn't fun. Even if you score 30 or 40 runs and win the match, you get more satisfaction and happiness.
"So, I think it was very important for me to do something and bring the team in a position where there is a little comfort for the rest of the batting order," he added.
But to reach this point, India had to wade through a sea of criticism, particularly after the management's decision to pick five spinners &mdash; Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, Varun Chakravarthy and Washington Sundar.
The first four played and contributed consistently in India's victories &mdash; either by taking wickets or choking the run flow.
But the thought leaders were never in doubt of their strategy, and close observations of the earlier matches in Dubai such as ILT20 helped them arrive at that decision.
"We knew the conditions would be difficult, but we adapted well. We had to go with more spinners than the seamers."
Staying in Dubai for the ICC showpiece was a decision beyond their control, for which the team came under fire for no real reason.
Unmindful of such outside talks, Rohit said India were smart enough to use the conditions to their advantage.
"We saw how much these surfaces were used before we came here. I knew that the slower bowlers will come into play. So, we wanted to pick the squad based on that,&rdquo; he said.
However, selecting the right squad is different from actually winning the matches because, as Gambhir hinted earlier, the four pitches used at the DICS offered different challenges to the team.
"Keeping the teams under 240s under 250 is a big effort. We think that the wicket is helping the spinners. But you must have seen that in a few matches, no ball has turned in such a way that the ball is turning every time, in every over," Rohit acknowledged.
While the bowlers might have had a certain edge because of that unpredictable spin, it put the batters under greater peril.
"Sometimes, one or two balls turn in between, but that is the challenge that you are facing as a batter. You don't have to be ready for the ball that is turning. But it's the straight ball.&rdquo; Kohli's dismissal in the final underlined that point.
The master batter, who has made 218 runs at an average of 54 with a hundred and a fifty to quell the talks around his form, played for the turn but off-spinner Michael Bracewell's stock ball was straighter than he expected to get caught in front of the wicket.
"The straight ball that is coming, which is 80% out of 100, or 70%, you have to be ready for that. So, I think that is the adaptation and that is what these guys have shown in the middle.
"I am proud of them because India is a bloody good team without a doubt," he said.
Now they have two global trophies to show as a validation as well.

"The ICC only invites the head of the host board such as the president, vice president, chairman, or CEO - to participate in the awards ceremony.
Other board officials, even if present at the venue, are not part of the stage proceedings," the ICC spokesperson added.
India beat New Zealand by four wickets in the title clash.
The PCB has rejected this explanation and noted that the ICC had made a number of errors during the tournament regarding Pakistan's status as host nation.
This included changing the CT 2025 logo in the live broadcasts feed of the India versus Bangladesh game and then playing the Indian national anthem in the Australia versus England match in Lahore.
The ICC claimed due to a mix up with the playlist the Indian national anthem was played for a few seconds before the error was corrected.
BCCI president Roger Binny presented the white jackets to India players and the medals to match officials, while ICC chairman Jay Shah handed the trophy to skipper Rohit Sharma and gave the medals to the winners.
BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia and New Zealand Cricket's CEO Roger Twose were also present on stage.
Meanwhile, the PCB chairman has extended his gratitude to his team, law enforcement agencies, provincial governments, ICC officials and the visiting teams for the success of the tournament.
"Your commitment and collective efforts ensured the seamless execution of the prestigious tournament," he said on his social media handle.

In a decisive move to quash speculation about his future, Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma declared that retirement from ODI cricket is nowhere on his radar.

"I am not going to retire from this format. Just to make sure no rumours are spread moving forward. Koi future plan hai nahi, jo chal raha hai chalega (there is no future plan, whatever is going on will continue as it is)."
At 38, Rohit is aware of the inevitable discussions regarding his career longevity, especially with the 2027 World Cup on the horizon. Yet, he chooses to live in the moment.
"Right now, I am taking things as they come. It wouldn't be fair for me to think too far ahead. My focus is on playing well and maintaining the right mindset," he commented on Jio Hotstar. Avoiding definitive commitments for the 2027 World Cup, he emphasized the importance of enjoying the present and cherishing his time with the team.
Reflecting on the Champions Trophy campaign, Rohit highlighted India's impeccable journey to the title. Against the odds, they clinched the trophy at the Dubai International Stadium, defeating New Zealand by four wickets in the final.
The unbeaten streak throughout the tournament, despite losing all five tosses, added a unique shine to their achievement. "Winning a tournament without a single defeat is a massive achievement, and it gives me immense satisfaction. Until we lifted the trophy, no one really thought about it. That realization made it even more special," he shared on Jio Hotstar.
Rohit credited the triumph to the team&rsquo;s unity and defined roles. "We have an incredibly solid team, and it's a joy to play alongside such committed individuals.
Everyone knows their role and responsibilities." The absence of star bowler Jasprit Bumrah required adaptability, a challenge met by strategic preparation.
"After the Australia tour, we had about 20-25 days before the tournament. We monitored the ILT20 matches closely to assess the pitches and playing conditions."
India's past failures in ICC tournaments had been a sore spot, and Rohit acknowledged the mindset shift that paved the way for success.
"In previous tournaments, we made mistakes we hadn't made before. It was always unfortunate. Our turning point came when we decided to prioritize collective success over individual milestones... I learned this the hard way in 2019," he admitted.
Going forward, Rohit envisions an India that commands respect and never underestimation. "I don't want to dictate how other teams should see us. The only thing I want is for them never to take us lightly. Even if we are five wickets down, we have the ability to fight back."
As Rohit continues to lead the Indian cricket team, his immediate focus remains on the field, exercising both caution and measured optimism about the future.

"We are not working in the right direction and making the wrong calls in many areas," he said. The former chief selector warned that the team would continue to spiral downwards if there is no planning and execution. He blamed frequent changes in the team's management, coaches, and players for the chaotic situation.
"I would think that the cricket board now needs to learn from its mistakes and not repeat the same mistakes we have made in the last two years.
"In the past two years, the performance of the Pakistan team has been on a decline. If we don't work in the right direction, we will continue to fall further," said Inzamam.
The former captain himself has been a victim of the chaos in the PCB as he was forced to step down as chief selector in 2023 after the board mishandled a matter relating to conflict of interest.
He made it clear that constant changes in team management is not a solution to the problem.
"We need to sit down and think about where the mistakes are being made." Inzamam said that being a former captain and player he knew that when constant changes are made, it only undermines the players.
"Instead of making too many changes, we need to think carefully about where things are going wrong. If there are constant changes, players won't gain the confidence they need, and the situation will remain the same," he further said.
The former captain also said he remained a big supporter of Babar Azam whom he described as a top player.
"Babar Azam is a top player. Everyone goes through a rough patch, but the national team hasn't been playing good cricket for the past few months," he added.
"Trust the management and the players, and work together to identify where the mistakes are," he said.
To a question about the role of the stars from the 1990s and the impact they had, Inzamam made it clear that the players from that era will hold special place in Pakistan cricket.
"If we look at the players from the 90s generation, Pakistan cricket would lose its strength without them," he concluded.
