Virat Kohli expressed deep sorrow following the tragic stampede that occurred near the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru on Wednesday, where 11 people lost their lives and 33 others were injured.

The incident took place during Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s (RCB) IPL 2025 victory celebrations, as thousands of fans gathered to catch a glimpse of their championship-winning team.

"At a loss for words. Absolutely gutted," Kohli wrote on Instagram, reacting to the heartbreaking turn of events that marred what was supposed to be a moment of joy and triumph.

Former South African captain and ex-RCB star AB de Villiers also shared his condolences through social media. "My thoughts and prayers are with those affected by the tragic events at the Chinnaswamy Stadium today," he posted on Instagram.

Confirming the details, Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah said that 11 people had died in the stampede and 33 others were injured. “A major tragedy occurred during the victory celebrations. It happened near the Chinnaswamy Stadium. The government has announced a compensation of Rs 10 lakh for the deceased. The government will provide free treatment to the injured,” the Chief Minister stated.

Expressing grief over the incident, he added, “11 died and 33 were injured in the stampede. This tragedy should not have happened. The government expresses deep sorrow over this incident.”

RCB had lifted their maiden IPL trophy on Tuesday, ending an 18-year wait by defeating Punjab Kings by six wickets in the final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. While RCB celebrated their historic win, the stampede has cast a sombre mood over the city and its cricketing faithful.

For Punjab Kings, who reached only their second IPL final and first in 11 years, the search for a maiden title continues.
