Virat Kohli was overwhelmed with emotion as Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) clinched their first-ever Indian Premier League (IPL) title with a six-run win over Punjab Kings at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.

Defending a total of 190/9, RCB’s disciplined bowling effort restricted Punjab Kings to 184/7 in their 20 overs.

Kohli, who led from the front with a top score of 43 runs, witnessed his team deliver a gritty bowling performance to seal the historic victory. The turning point came in the final over, when the game’s result became clear. Cameras captured the emotional scenes as tears welled up in Kohli’s eyes, overwhelmed by the significance of the moment.

As the final ball was bowled, Kohli dropped to his knees, surrounded by jubilant teammates. Later, while speaking to the media, he expressed the magnitude of the win.

"This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team. It's been 18 long years. I've given this team my youth, prime and experience. I've tried to win it every season, gave it everything I have. To finally have it is an unbelievable feeling," Kohli said after the game.

“Never thought this day would come, I was overcome with emotion after the last ball was bowled. Gave each and every ounce of my energy and it's an amazing feeling,” added the former RCB skipper.

Reflecting on his deep-rooted connection with the city and the team, Kohli continued:

“My heart is with Bangalore, my soul is with Bangalore. This is a high-intensity tournament, I want to win the big tournaments and moments. Tonight, I'll sleep like a baby. I look for ways to improve, I want to field and make an impact there.”

Kohli also made a heartfelt mention of his former RCB teammate and close friend AB de Villiers, urging that he deserved to be part of the title celebration.

“What ABD has done for the franchise is tremendous, told him 'this win is as much yours as it is ours. I want you to celebrate with us'. He's been the POTM most times in the franchise despite being retired for four years. Tells you the impact he's had on the league, team and me. He deserves to be on the podium, lifting the cup,” he said.

The night in Ahmedabad marked the end of an 18-year wait and a crowning moment in Kohli’s storied association with the franchise.
