Former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma not a fan of IPL's 'Impact Player' rule, reveals why

The 'Impact Player' rule has received mixed reactions ever since its inception in IPL 2023 and now former Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma has revealed that he too, is not a fan of the regulation.

Speaking on the Club Prairie Fire podcast, Sharma admitted he is not in favour of the rule because among other things it is not going to aid Indian cricket in the longer run.

Explaining his reasons, Sharma elaborated, 'I am not big fan of impact sub rule. It is going to hold all-rounders back, guys like Dube & Sundar aren’t getting to bowl which is not a good thing for us. It is entertaining as there are 12 players, giving lots of options.'

The 'Impact Player' rule has drawn a lot of flak by fans and critics alike for the lack of opportunities it presents to deserving players, particularly all-rounders.

Many are of the opinion that it offers teams an undue advantage of an additional player, thus creating an imbalance instead of a challenge of playing with the same eleven throughout the match.
