'Everything is fake unless...', Rohit Sharma on rumours about opening with Virat Kohli in T20 World Cup

'Everything is fake unless...', Rohit Sharma on rumours about opening with Virat Kohli in T20 World Cup

Amid continuous rumours about the final fifteen that will take the flight to the USA for the 2024 T20 World Cup, captain Rohit Sharma cleared the air on Thursday about the selection buzz.

During a conversation on podcast Club Prairie Fire, Sharma revealed that contrary to popular discussions, he has not met head coach Rahul Dravid and chief selector Ajit Agarkar regarding any team talks.

A report by Dainik Jagran, dated April 17, 2024, claimed that Rohit Sharma would be India's chosen opener for the T20 event alongside stalwart Virat Kohli.

Debunking the Dainik Jagran claims, Sharma asserted, 'In today's day and age, unless you hear it from myself, Rahul (Dravid) himself or Ajit (Agarkar) himself or unless someone from BCCI confirms on camera, everything else is fake.'

Sharma also discussed the India keeper-batter role that is still under discussion for the World Cup and addressed speculations surrounding MS Dhoni's current form in the IPL.

The former India skipper's cameo at the Wankhede against Mumbai Indians got the cricketing world conspiring for his return to the national side.

In a lighter vein, Sharma said, 'Dhoni came to bat for just 4 balls, made a huge impact and that was the difference at the end -- it will be hard to convince MS to come to West Indies I guess (T20 WC) but he is coming to the US as he is into Golf these days.'
