Adam Zampa Ruled Out of IPL 2025 Due to Shoulder Injury

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s Australian leg-spinner Adam Zampa has been ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2025 following a flare-up of a lingering shoulder injury.

Zampa featured in SRH's opening two matches this season, coming in as the Impact Player.

He picked up 1 for 48 and 1 for 46 in what were two incredibly high-scoring encounters — including the record-breaking clash between SRH and Rajasthan Royals that saw a combined total of 528 runs.

However, the 32-year-old soon experienced discomfort in his bowling shoulder, which forced him out of the next four games.

The injury is understood to be a recurrence of the shoulder issue Zampa dealt with before the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Despite that setback, he made a remarkable recovery last year and emerged as the tournament’s second-highest wicket-taker, playing a crucial role in Australia’s title-winning campaign.

While there was some hope that Zampa could return to the IPL after a short rest and recovery period, SRH have decided to move forward and named 21-year-old Karnataka batter R Smaran as his replacement in the squad. Zampa has now returned home to Australia for further medical evaluation.

He is not expected to take the field again until Australia’s T20I series against West Indies in the Caribbean, scheduled for late July.

He remains a vital component of Australia’s white-ball setup, especially with the T20 World Cup less than a year away, to be jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. The team is set to play 19 T20Is between July and February as part of their preparation for the marquee event.
