IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma's 87 helps India reach 229 after poor start | Cricket World Cup

India's innings versus England can be defined as chaotic, stability and then chaotic again as the hosts set a target of 230 in Lucknow for Buttler & Co.

IND vs ENG: Rohit Sharma's 87 helps India reach 229 after poor start | Cricket World Cup

If one had to define India's innings against England in Lucknow, it could be summed up in three words.

Chaos, stability and then chaos again.

For the first time in this World Cup, India batted first on October 29. But India's batters could not sustain themselves at the crease from the word go.

It began with Shubman Gill, who fell in the 4th over to Chris Woakes.

And then in a shock loss, it was India's dependable number 3, Virat Kohli to depart next for a duck.

With a chaotic collapse of most of the top-order, Rohit Sharma played a captain's knock of 87 off 101 balls which included 3 sixes and 10 fours.

Sharma and no. 5 KL Rahul then managed to stitch up a 91-run partnership for the fifth wicket.

The innings continued to progress at a snail's pace in the middle overs.

And then the chaos returned.

This time, it was Rahul, who departed for a steady 38 followed by the captain.

Sharma looked well on track to score his second ton of this World Cup but a miscalculated hit cut short his stellar innings.

And as wickets continued to tumble on the other end, Suryakumar Yadav and then Jasprit Bumrah helped India put up 229 runs on the board.

For England, the pacers weaved magic at Ekana as David Willey took three, Chris Woakes got two and Mark Wood settled for one.

Meanwhile, spinner Adil Rashid scalped the crucial wickets of the Indian skipper and all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja.
