Iftikhar Ahmed accepts Pakistan played poorly, gives credit to Afghanistan | PAK vs AFG | ODI World Cup

Iftikhar Ahmed reflected on his side's poor show against Afghanistan after they registered a historic maiden win in an ODI against Pakistan at the ICC Cricket World Cup in Chennai on Monday.

'Look, when you get hit, you know, then every team in the world only goes down. That is the reality. Look, you have to give credit to them. They played better cricket than us...if I have to say honestly, today they played better cricket than us. That's why they won.'

When asked about their poor bowling, Iftikhar said, 'Honestly, our bowling is world no 1 bowling. But we have not been performing here the way we expected them to do. The thing is there is ups and downs in cricket and I think we are currently on the way down, especially the bowlers. We will try hard and there is no other option in front of us other than trying hard. So we will try hard and hope to get back to the top.'

He also reflected on the poor fielding the Men in Green have displayed throughout the tournament.

'Look, you have asked a very tough question. We were giving our best but the thing is if you have to play against a world class team, then you have to be world class in fielding, bowling and in batting...then you survive, according to me. So, you are hundred per cent right, we made a lot of mistakes in fielding today. So, the only option left for us is improvement. We have nothing else left with us,' Iftikhar stated.
