Glenn Maxwell recalls funny moment when Pat Cummins was left all alone with Cricket World Cup trophy

A jubilant Australia lifted the World Cup trophy for the record sixth time on November 19, 2023 but moments before the team photo, skipper Pat Cummins was caught off-guard.

Glenn Maxwell recalls funny moment when Pat Cummins was left all alone with Cricket World Cup trophy

Pat Cummins standing alone on the podium after being awarded the World Cup trophy was an unforgettable moment at the end of the marquee event.

The Australian skipper had shook hands with Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Deputy Prime Minister of Australia Richard Marles before accepting the trophy that evening.

Nearly three weeks after the historic night, Cummins' teammate Glenn Maxwell has revealed what the team felt after seeing their captain all alone with the trophy.

Speaking to Australian daily The Age, Maxwell said, 'It was quite funny watching the videos of the post-match presentation where he (Pat Cummins) shook Modi's hand and was stuck there on the podium.'

Maxwell also commended his captain for dealing with the unexpected situation patiently.

'It felt like that lasted for about 10 minutes, him just standing there with the trophy waiting for the group to come on. But he actually dealt with it with class. He didn't make a big song and dance about it, [he] just thought 'you know what, I'll wait here, be respectful.' Not everyone would've dealt with that like he did.'

Australia defeated India in the Cricket World Cup final to lift the trophy a record sixth time on November 19, 2023.
