Cricket World Cup: India's Shreyas Iyer, Shubman Gill struggle to cope with old issues vs England

Shubman Gill's persistent issue with slow weight transfer and Shreyas Iyer's struggles against short-pitched deliveries continued to haunt them as both fell cheaply against England in India's World Cup game.

Due to the same issue, the young batter has fallen victim to bowlers like James Anderson, Kagiso Rabada, Kyle Jamieson, Mohammad Shami (IPL), and now Chris Woakes.

There's also no end to Shreyas Iyer's struggles with short-pitched deliveries. Like he perished pulling one straight to Devon Conway in the game against New Zealand, Iyer fell to the short ball ploy once again. It's previously brought about his downfall not just in limited-overs cricket but England effectively used it against him in Tests too, especially after Brendon McCullum took over as coach. Iyer's failure to roll his wrists to keep the ball down is surely a problem. In addition, he doesn't duck or sway away from the short balls.

For Gill, the gap between bat and pad once again proved to be his undoing on a ball that seamed off the pitch. Gill's slow weight transfer onto his front foot has been a problem in the past, and even though the 24-year-old has worked on it with his coaches, it clearly hasn't been rectified completely. His lack of feet movement didn't allow him to get his bat in line with the ball after the seam movement and eventually, it crashed into the stumps.
