UEFA Nations League: Spain set up final showdown with Croatia after 2-1 win over Italy

Spain beat Italy 2-1 in their UEFA Nations League semi-final to set up a title showdown with Luka Modric’s Croatia on Sunday.

The match in Enschede, Netherlands saw an impressive display from Yeremy Pino, who won the ball from Italian legend Leonardo Bonucci just outside his own box before unleashing a powerful strike to give Spain the lead in just the 3rd minute.

Italy responded with determination, and Ciro Immobile successfully converted a penalty in the 11th minute after Spain debutant Robin le Normand handled the ball inside the box.

But the decisive goal came from Spanish substitute Joselu in the 88th minute. The Espanyol star seized on an opportunity from close range following a deflected shot by Rodri, propelling Spain to the final in Rotterdam.

Spain's previous major triumph came at the 2012 Euros, and they are determined to add another accolade to their collection. However, they will face a resilient Croatia side aiming to secure their country's first international trophy.

Meanwhile, Italy will battle the Netherlands in the third-placed play-off of the Nations League on Sunday as well, with both teams seeking to end their campaign on a positive note.
