Manchester City crowned FIFA Club World Cup champions after beating Fluminense 4-0 in final

Manchester City demonstrated their overwhelming superiority in the Club World Cup final, securing a commanding 4-0 victory over Fluminense. This triumph on Friday also marked their fifth title in the year 2023.

City wasted no time in asserting their dominance, taking the lead within the first 40 seconds of the game, setting the tone for a largely one-sided match. Julian Alvarez was quick to react, capitalizing on a rebound from Nathan Ake's shot that had hit the post, scoring the first goal.

The match's outcome seemed inevitable after Fluminense's captain Nino inadvertently scored an own goal in the 27th minute, further cementing City's lead. Phil Foden added to Fluminense's woes in the 72nd minute, skillfully converting a pass from Alvarez into a goal. Alvarez wasn’t done yet and found the back of the net once more in the 88th minute, sealing the victory for Manchester City.

This win not only granted Manchester City their first Club World Cup title but also continued Europe's dominance in FIFA's prestigious tournament for continental champions, marking it as the 16th European victory in 17 editions.
