Guinea lose 2025 Africa Cup of Nations hosting rights

The 24-team 2025 African Cup of Nations will not be played in Guinea as the Confederation of African Football has stripped the nation of hosting rights due to lack of infrastructure.

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) president Patrice Motsepe has announced that Guinea will not be hosting the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) anymore.

Motsepe came to the conclusion after a meeting with the country's top hierarchy, citing that Guinea's infrastructure and facilities are not yet ready to host a world-class AFCON tournament.

It was Senegal who won the last tournament in Cameroon, having overcome Egypt in the penalty shootout.

While there's no update on who will now host the tournament, the bidding for the event is expected to reopen in the coming days.
