Football World Cup: Fans can get booze at stadiums in Muslim-majority Qatar

With less than five months left for the football World Cup, FIFA and Qatar authorities are still working on a beer policy for soccer fans at venues in the Muslim-majority country.

However, hospitality packages offering premium beverages at stadiums are up for grabs since February 2021.

With FIFA having a sponsor deal with Budweiser, the preferred opinion is to allow football fans to bring non-alcoholic Budweiser Zero to their seats while providing beer with alcohol in stadium compounds before and following the matches.

It is the first time in World Cup's 92-year history that a Muslim-majority country, which has social taboos around alcohol, is hosting the tournament.

When Qatar was picked as the venue of the 2022 World Cup a decade ago the organisers promised that they will come up with a plan that welcomes everyone.

The Qatari authorities had already tested their alcohol policy during the 2019 Club World Cup. A drinking zone was created on the outskirts of Doha during that tournament.
