FIFA ban to end soon? SC scraps 3-member panel, AIFF elections pushed back

The Supreme Court on Monday scrapped Committee of Administrators, the 3-member panel that was assigned last year to run the All India Football Federation.

The apex body has now directed that the daily affair of the Indian football body will be taken care of by the AIFF administration itself.

The verdict came after the government late on Sunday appealed to SC to revoke the CoA to meet the demands of the world governing body. This means the FIFA ban which was imposed for ‘undue influence from third parties' on AIFF could be lifted soon.

The bench headed by Justice DY Chandrachud also deferred the election date by a week, which was otherwise scheduled on August 28. The nomination process was also changed. The voters list will consist of the 36 members representing states and union territories only, SC ruled.

The ban has already affected the national and club teams. On Sunday, Gokulam Kerala were denied participation in the AFC Women's Club Championship due to the ban.
