Cristiano Ronaldo takes swipe at MLS days after Lionel Messi joined Inter Miami

The rivalry between Cristiano Ronaldo and Lionel Messi spans nearly two decades and even today, it is as fierce as ever.

Just days after the Argentinian superstar joined America's Major League Soccer (MLS) club Inter Miami as a free agent, Ronaldo reportedly took a swipe at the US-based league.

The 38-year-old who plays for Al-Nassr in the Saudi Pro League spoke said, 'The Saudi league is better than MLS. I opened the way to the Saudi league, and now all the players are coming here.'

After Ronaldo moved to the middle east, several footballers have followed suit including his former Real Madrid teammate Karim Benzema.

Before Messi made the move across the Atlantic, rumours were swirling that the World-Cup winning captain too would join a Saudi club.

But the 36-year-old went the Inter Miami way.

Speaking about the European football club scene, Ronaldo said that barring the English Premier League, the European leagues have lost their charm adding that he would not return to his home continent to play club football.

He instead put his money on Saudi Pro League saying, 'In one year, more and more top players will come to Saudi. In a year the Saudi league will overtake the Turkish league and Dutch league.'
