Will Rohit Sharma end India's long-wait for an ICC title?

The murmurs of Rohit Sharma taking over soon have been doing the rounds for quite some time now but it only got louder when the Mumbai cricketer was appointed as the T20 captain. But the timing of the announcement of Rohit replacing Virat Kohli as the ODI skipper perhaps shocked everyone.

The Hitman has a lot of challenges coming up ahead. To start with, Rohit has to build a team for the 2023 ODI World Cup given India has played only three 50-over series in the last year. There is a lot of fresh talent available in the form of Suryakumar Yadav, Ishan Kishan, Ventakesh Iyer and many others and Rohit along with new head coach Rahul Dravid need to find the right combination.

One of the major worries going forward for the Hitman will be his own fitness as in the last six months Rohit missed many IPL games as well as the international matches due to hamstring issues.

Rohit has won 8 out of 10 games as an ODI captain so far. In the absence of Kohli, he led India in the 2018 Asia Cup and won the title. The 34-year-old batter has been known for his cool mindset and great decision-making during crunch situations.

But it has to be seen whether Rohit can do what Virat failed to do so, winning an ICC event. After all, Team India won their last ICC title under MS Dhoni when they defeated England to win the ICC Champions Trophy in 2013.
