Virender Sehwag opens up on applying for head coach role after Kohli's fallout with Anil Kumble

Virender Sehwag revealed that Virat Kohli approached him to take up the role of Team India's head coach after the former captain had a fallout with Anil Kumble.

During a chat with News18 India, Viru claimed that he wouldn’t have applied for the post if Virat Kohli and then BCCI secretary Amitabh Choudhary hadn’t approached him.

Revealing details about his meeting with the BCCI officials for the post, Sehwag said that Amitabh Choudhary told him that things weren’t working out between Virat and Kumble and the board wanted him to take the coaching position.

'He told me that Kumble’s contract will expire after the Champions Trophy in 2017 and then you can travel to West Indies with the team,' Sehwag added.

Kumble was eventually replaced by Ravi Shastri following India's defeat against Pakistan in the 2017 Champions Trophy final.
