Remembering Andrew Symonds: 'T20 is good for the game but not for ego'

"T20 is good for the game but not for ego", the former Australian all-rounder Andrew Symonds had once said after failing to defend 17 runs inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League against Shane Warne.

The demise of Symonds shocked the cricketing world which was still mourning the death of legendary Shane Warne.

Here are some of Symonds' best moments while playing the game he loved the most.

2003 World Cup vs Pakistan

Andrew Symonds filled in the boots of Michael Bevan and took Australia out of shambles in their 2003 World Cup opener against Pakistan. From 146-5 in 30th over, Australia went to score 310-8, all because of Symonds' 143 not out off 125 balls.

Sydney Test: 2008 vs India

Though the match was first marred by Umpiring controversy, Symonds displayed his tremendous temperament and scored 162 not out against India in the Sydney Test. This time, Symonds took Australia out from 134-6 in the first innings and scalped two crucial wickets in the second innings. But his prolific innings was marred by the monkey gate scandal as Symonds alleged Harbhajan Singh for using a racial slur against him.

117 no vs RR in 2008 ipl

Two months after the monkey gate scandal, Andrew Symonds emerged as the most expensive foreign buy in the inaugural edition of IPL. While representing now-defunct Deccan Charges, Symonds steamrolled the Warne's Rajasthan Royals' bowlers and slammed 116 off 53 balls. But he failed to take his team home as he was not able to defend 17 runs in the last over against Warne who tonked his Australian counterpart for a Four and two sixes.
