'Played only 3 balls' - Rohit Sharma's verdict on misfiring Suryakumar Yadav

Indian captain Rohit Sharma has put his weight behind the misfiring Suryakumar Yadav.

Suryakumar Yadav's place in the side has come into question after the batter recorded three consecutive golden ducks against Australia, with India losing the 3-match series 2-1.

His golden duck in Chennai, where he was removed first ball by Ashton Agar, saw him become the 6th Indian batter to register three consecutive ducks in ODIs after Sachin Tendulkar, Anil Kumble, Zaheer Khan, Ishant Sharma & Jasprit Bumrah.

And captain Rohit admitted his Mumbai Indians teammate is currently going through a bad phase but backed him to come good in the future.

Rohit said, "He only played 3 balls this series. I don't know how much to look into it. He got 3 good balls to be honest. Today, it wasn't that good a ball. He should have gone forward. He knows best. He plays spin so well. We have seen that over the last couple of years. That's why we held him back and give him that role for the last 15-20 overs where he can play his game, but it's really unfortunate he could only play 3 balls. That can happen to anyone. But the potential and ability are always there. He is just going through that phase right now."
