Nicholas Pooran steps down as West Indies' limited-overs captain

Following West Indies' first-round exit from the recently concluded T20 World Cup, Nicholas Pooran resigned from ODI and T20I captaincy.

In a statement, Pooran said for the best interests of the team, he is relinquishing the Windies' captaincy and will continue to deliver as a player.

Pooran took over the captaincy from Kieron Pollard in May this year. He was not able to inspire the team as under his captaincy the Caribbean nation managed to win only eight matches in ODIs and T20Is out of 30 games played across the formats.

Under Pooran's leadership, the two-time T20 World Cup champions even failed to qualify for the Super 12 round in Australia as they faced defeat from Scotland and Ireland in qualifiers.

Pooran's form with the bat has been a cause of concern for the Windies as well given the Southpaw has managed to score only 94 runs in his last 10 innings in T20Is.

The West Indies board will announce the new captain in due course.
