In a heartwarming gesture, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj, who won the Player of the Match award for his sensational figures of 6/21, dedicated his cash award to the Sri Lankan groundsmen.

Siraj, the recipient of a $5,000 cash prize for his exceptional display with the ball, emphasized that the groundsmen were more deserving of the monetary recognition.

During the post-match presentation, he stated, "This cash award goes to the groundstaff. This tournament wouldn't have been possible without them."

The Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President, Jay Shah, also acknowledged the invaluable contribution of the groundsmen and curators by announcing a significant cash prize of $50,000, acknowledging them as the 'unsung heroes of cricket.'

Despite relentless weather challenges during the tournament, marked by multiple rain delays, the diligent efforts of the groundsmen and curators in Colombo and Kandy ensured that most matches proceeded as scheduled. Their unwavering dedication played a pivotal role in the successful continuation of the Asia Cup tournament, defying the adversities posed by the weather.

Notably, the groundsmen faced a formidable task during the Super 4 match between India and Pakistan, contending with persistent rain on both the originally scheduled and reserve days. Despite these daunting challenges, their tireless endeavours ensured the match proceeded, culminating in a victory for India against their arch-rivals.
