NZ Cricket to pay men & women equally after historic agreement

In a bid to foster equality, the New Zealand Cricket Board set a new benchmark as it became the first cricket organisation in the world to announce an equal pay scale for its men's and women's cricketers.

As per a new 5-year deal between the NZC, the New Zealand Cricket players' association and 6 major associations, the women cricketers (domestic, international) would get equal match fees for the same amount of work on the same day as their male counterparts from August 1st.

It is for the first time that the men's and women's game has been combined under one agreement. New Zealand men's captain Kane Williamson and women's captain Sophie Devine welcomed the decision. While Williamson called it an exciting time for the sport, Devine said that it will be a huge drawcard for young women and girls.

The agreement also aims to provide equity in travel and accommodation for women. It also includes the pregnancy and childcare provisions of the existing contracts.
