'KL Rahul's performances have been below par' - Venkatesh Prasad

KL Rahul was subjected to some harsh criticism by former Indian player Venkatesh Prasad who feels that the opener's selection was based on "favouritsm' even as India demolished Australia by an innings and 132 runs inside three days in the first Test.

The 30-year-old was picked ahead of the in-form Shubman Gill and scored 20 runs off 71 deliveries in the first innings.

"Rahul's selection is not based on performance but favouritism. A test average of 34 after 46 tests and more than 8 years in international cricket is ordinary. Can’t think of many who have been given so many chances," Prasad wrote on Twitter

"Some are just lucky to be given chances endlessly till they succeed while some aren't allowed to," he added

Venkatesh Prasad also suggested that one among Ravichandran Ashwin, Cheteshwar Pujara and Ravindra Jadeja should be made the vice-captain instead of KL Rahul in Tests.
