Former England batsman Jonathan Trott has been named as the new head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team.
The Englishman will be replacing Graham Thorpe who earlier withdrew from the position.
Talking about his joining, the 41-year-old said that he is honoured to have the opportunity to take on of international cricket's most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development as a team.
Trott has played 200 international matches for England and was retired from the game in 2018.
He previously worked with the England Men's team and as the batting consultant for Scotland during the T20 World Cup in 2021.
Afghanistan's tour to Ireland in August will be Trott's first assignment as the head coach of the Asian team.

Milkha Singh was fondly called ‘Flying Sikh’ a moniker given by Pakistan’s president General Ayub Khan after he beat Pakistan's Abdul Khaliq at an International Athletic Competition in Lahore.

Ahead of the inaugural edition of UAE's International T20 League, Mumbai the Indians-owned MI Emirates have announced their 14-member squad. 
The squad will be based in Abu Dhabi and includes a bunch of past and present players of the five-time IPL champions. 
The team includes renowned West Indian players in Kieron Pollard, Dwayne Bravo and Nicholas Pooran along with Trent Boult, who recently turned back on the New Zealand central contract.  
Meanwhile, the local players from UAE will be added to the squad in the near future, according to the MI Emirates media release.

The Ganguly-led side will feature some of India's legendary players such as Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh and Mohammed Kaif among others

BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will return to the cricket field as captain once again, this time to lead India Maharajas against World Giants in a special match of the Legends League Cricket on September 16.
In a statement, league commissioner Ravi Shastri said that this year's league is dedicated to India's 75th year of Independence.&nbsp;
The Ganguly-led side will feature some of India's legendary players such as Virender Sehwag, Harbhajan Singh, and Mohammed Kaif among others.

Meanwhile, the World Giants side will be led by 2019 World Cup-winning captain Eoin Morgan. The World Giants squad will also have renowned superstars in Herschelle Gibbs, Dale Steyn, Sanath Jayasuriya, Muttiah Muralitharan, Mitchell Johnson, and Brett Lee among others.&nbsp; &ldquo;Players from across 10 foreign countries will be participating in this match. The league will commence the next day from September 17, 2022, wherein 4 teams in franchise format will be competing in the Legends League Cricket Franchise format. Overall 15 matches will be played this season,&rdquo; according to the official press release.
