Jonathan Trott appointed Afghanistan's new head coach

Jonathan Trott has been named as the new head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team

Former England batsman Jonathan Trott, who has played more than 50 Tests for the Three Lions, has been appointed as the new head coach of the Afghanistan men's cricket team.

The Englishman will replace fellow countryman Graham Thorpe, who couldn’t lend his services to the Blue Tigers due to illness.

Talking about his appointment, the 41-year-old said that he is honoured to have the opportunity to take on one of international cricket's most exciting teams through what is a huge year for their development.

Trott, who retired from cricket back in 2018, has represented England in all three formats.

He previously worked with the England Men's team and as the batting consultant for Scotland during the T20 World Cup in 2021.

Afghanistan's tour to Ireland in August will be Trott's first assignment as the head coach of the Asian side.
