Joe Root resigns as England's Test Captain

Joe Root has resigned as England's Test Captain after serving the role for the past 5 years. The decision came following England's Test series defeat against West Indies.

Root said, "After returning from the Caribbean tour and having time to reflect, I have decided to step down as England's men's Test captain. I am immensely proud to have captained my country and will look back on the past five years with enormous pride."

Joe Root took over the captaincy from Alastair Cook in 2017 and served the role for 5 years. In a 5-year time, he led England in 64 Tests and had won 27. He is the most successful English Test captain.

For the last few matches, his captaincy was being questioned as the team had won only one Test match out of their last 17 matches.
