Jadeja hits 4th Test ton, Sarfaraz scores fifty on debut as India finish day 1 at 326/5 | IND vs ENG

Sarfaraz Khan also looked top-class in his maiden game for the senior team, scoring the joint-fastest fifty by an Indian on Test debut. His 62-run knock, however, was cut short after Jadeja's poor call got him run out a few minutes before stumps.

In a remarkable display, Ravindra Jadeja marked a memorable homecoming in Rajkot by securing his fourth Test century during the first day of the third Test against England, propelling India to a strong finish at 326/5. Elevated to bat at the crucial number 5 slot, Jadeja's arrival at the crease was pivotal, especially as India found themselves in a difficult situation early in the game with the score at 33/3.

The initial phase of the match saw India grappling with the loss of three quick wickets. However, the strategic decision to send Jadeja in next, instead of debutant Sarfaraz Khan, turned the tide in India's favour. This strategic move, aimed at maintaining a left-right batting combination, proved to be a turning point in the match.

Jadeja's partnership with captain Rohit Sharma was nothing short of transformative. Together, they stitched a monumental 204-run partnership for the fourth wicket, pulling India back from the brink of adversity. Rohit, too, shone brightly, registering his 11th Test century, his innings serving as a cornerstone in India's fightback.

For Jadeja, scoring his fourth Test century in front of his home crowd was a moment of triumph. Demonstrating patience and prowess, he reached the milestone in 198 deliveries, embodying the role of the World No. 1 all-rounder with his stellar performance.

The dynamic of the match shifted once again with Rohit's dismissal, which saw Sarfaraz Khan joining Jadeja in the middle. Sarfaraz, seizing his long-awaited chance, launched an aggressive counterattack against the English bowlers, marking his debut with a rapid fifty off just 48 balls - the joint-fastest fifty by an Indian on Test debut.

However, a moment of miscommunication led to Sarfaraz's run-out at 62, as he responded to Jadeja's call for a risky single with the latter on 99. Jadeja, upon reaching his century with the next ball, offered a subdued celebration, mindful of his role in Sarfaraz's dismissal.

The match commenced with Rohit Sharma opting to bat first after winning the toss, leading to significant changes in the Indian lineup, including Test debuts for Sarfaraz Khan and Dhruv Jurel, and strategic inclusions of Mohammed Siraj and Jadeja.
