Former cricketer arrested for duping Rishabh Pant and luxury hotels

The Delhi Police apprehended a 25-year-old ex-cricketer on December 25th for swindling several high-end hotels, including the Taj Palace, accumulating debts amounting to lakhs of rupees.

The individual, identified as Mrinank Singh, played for the Haryana Under-19 team and also claimed to have represented the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL).

Singh cheated the Taj Palace in Delhi, racking up a bill of Rs 5.5 lakh in July 2022. His fraudulent activities were curtailed when he was detained at the IGI Airport in Delhi by Immigration officers as he attempted to board a flight to Hong Kong on December 25.

One of Singh's high-profile victims was Rishabh Pant, the captain of the Delhi Capitals (DC) cricket team. Pant's lawyer, Eklavya Dwivedi, in an exclusive interview with Sports Tak, revealed that Singh had approached Pant in 2022 with a proposition. He convinced the cricketer that he had ventured into a new business of trading in luxury items, offering them at significantly reduced prices.

Trusting Singh's claims, Pant transferred a substantial sum of money to him for the purchase of expensive watches and even handed over various luxury items, including jewellery, with the expectation that Singh would resell them at a substantial profit.

However, when Singh failed to procure the promised items, Pant took legal action, resulting in a mutual agreement to settle the matter for Rs 1.63 crore. Singh issued a cheque for this amount, but when Pant attempted to encash it, the bank notified him that it had bounced due to insufficient funds in Singh's account.
