'Cut ODI cricket from 50 overs to 40 overs': Ravi Shastri's suggestion to preserve one-day format

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has suggested reducing the number of overs in ODI cricket from 50 to 40, in order to preserve the format.

During a discussion on Fan Code, Shastri said that there is no harm in shortening the span of the game. When one-day cricket started, it was of 60 overs but people found 60 overs to be a bit too long. So it was reduced to 50. But it has stayed at 50 for too long and can be reduced to 40 now. 'You got to be forward-thinking and evolve,' added the former coach.

Many former cricketers and pundits have had their say as far as ODIs are concerned ever since Ben Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format due to a packed cricketing calendar.
