'Cut ODI cricket from 50 overs to 40 overs': Ravi Shastri's suggestion to preserve one-day format

Many former cricketers and pundits have had their say as far as ODIs are concerned ever since Ben Stokes announced his retirement from the 50-over format due to a packed criciting calendar

Former India head coach Ravi Shastri has suggested reducing the number of overs in ODI cricket from 50 to 40, in order to preserve the format.

During a discussion on Fan Code, Shastri said that there is no harm in shortening the span of the game. When one-day cricket started, it was of 60 overs but people found 60 overs to be a bit too long. So it was reduced to 50. But it has stayed at 50 for too long and can be reduced to 40 now. 'You got to be forward-thinking and evolve,' added the former coach.
