Cricket Australia considers lifting captaincy ban from David Warner

David Warner may soon be eligible to contest for Australia's captaincy as Cricket Australia is considering to revoke Warner’s lifetime ban from leadership positions.

The now 35-year-old batter was banned from the elite game for a year and from leadership positions for life by CA following the ball tampering saga in South Africa in 2018. But the body’s integrity code would be reviewed at Friday’s board meeting as a “first step” to Warner's rehabilitation.

"We are looking at sanctions to be reviewed for good behaviour and growth after a period of time," said CA chief executive Nick Hockley. However, he added that pending the discussion, there would then need to be a revision of the code and that would need to be approved by the board.

Interestingly, Warner himself said recently that he would regard the offer of a leadership role for his country as a “privilege”.
