After losing 4 crucial wickets in the last session of Day 2, Sri Lanka will be needing a great deal of grit and resilience on Day 3 of the 1st Test against India to avoid a big defeat at Mohali.

At stumps on Day 2, Sri Lanka were reeling at 108-4 with Pathum Nissanka and Charith Asalanka on the crease.

Dimuth Karunaratne and Lahiru Thirimanne provided the visitors with a steady start after India declared their first innings on 574-8 at tea.

The spin duo of Ashwin and Jadeja then removed both the openers in quick succession. With Angelo Mathews and Pathum Nissanka at the crease, Sri Lanka hoped of no more casualty. But Bumrah produced a fiery spell in the last hour of play and trapped Mathews in front of the wicket.

Ravichandran Ashwin got the wicket of Dhananjaya de Silva five overs later to put the Islanders in a spot of bother going into Day 3.

Earlier, Ravindra Jadeja produced a masterclass with the bat and scored an unbeaten 175 before Rohit Sharma decided to declare at 574/8.
