IND vs SL 1st Test: Team India score their 1st 500+ total after 42 innings

As Team India piled up a big score against Sri Lanka in the first Test at Mohali, it was the first time since 2019 that they scored runs in excess of 500 in a red-ball game.

Captain Rohit Sharma declared Indian innings on Day 2 at 574-8 with Ravindra Jadeja remaining unbeaten on 175.

This was India's 11th 500-plus score against Sri Lanka at home.

Meanwhile, Jadeja became the first player batting at number 7 or below position to be involved in three 100-plus partnerships. Firstly, he stitched a 104-run stand with Rishabh Pant followed by a 130-run stand with Ravichandran Ashwin. The third hundred run stand came for the 9th wicket with Mohammed Shami.

The last time India scored in excess of 500 was during a Test match against South Africa at Pune in October 2019, when they declared their innings at 601-5.
