Ashes Boxing Day Test: England bundled out for 185 on Day 1 vs Australia

England put up another dismal show in the ongoing Ashes Series as the team was bundled out for 185 runs in just over two sessions on Day 1 of the Boxing Day Test.

This was the 13th time in 28 innings that England have been bowled out for under 200 in Tests in 2021.

At stumps, Australia were 61-1 with Marcus Harris and nightwatchman Nathan Lyon at the crease as James Anderson removed David Warner just 10 minutes to the end of the play.

Captain Pat Cummins, returning to the Australia side, won the toss and asked the visitors to bat first under the overcast conditions.

The Kangaroos made full use of the overcast conditions as Cummins ripped through England's top-order in no time. Joe Root showed some fight, along with Dawid Malan, putting a 48 run stand before Cummins sent the southpaw back to the pavilion.

Ben Stokes and Jonny Bairstow got good starts but both threw away their wickets on the counter-attack.

Root was the highest scorer for England with 50 runs off 82 balls. A little cameo from Ollie Robinson pushed the visitors past the 180-run mark.

All the bowlers chipped in for Australia as Lyon, Cummins took three wickets each while Mitchell Starc scalped two. Cameron Green and debutant Scott Boland got one wicket apiece.
