'I could also turn it around and say, if we didn't declare, would we have got that excitement that we did at the end of day five? I'm not hundred percent sure.'

This is what England captain Ben Stokes had to say when asked if declaring early on the opening day of the 1st Ashes Test in Birmingham cost his side the game.

It's clear that the Three Lions don't regret the brand of cricket they have been playing.

Famously termed as 'Bazball', even Joe Root said that English players find no need to change their approach despite fingers being pointed at them following the loss.

'We showed how we intend to go out and play and how we backed up the way in a big series, even in an Ashes series that we will stay true to how we want to do it. I think that's an exciting prospect for the next 4 games. Anyone coming in to watch the game will be thoroughly entertained. I think they should expect the same in the next 4 games,' said Root.

2nd Ashes Test starts on June 28 at the home of cricket, Lord's.
