Ashes 1st Test: Travis Head's unbeaten 112 helps Australia lead by 196 runs on Day 2

England missed too many opportunities on Day 2 as Australia took a 196 run lead thanks to Travis Head's counter-attacking century in Brisbane. Head hit the third-fastest Ashes Test hundred to help Australia reach 343-7 at stumps on Day 2.

David Warner's 94-run innings set the tone for Australia after they bowled out England for 147 on Day 1. Apart from Warner, no one managed to trouble the English bowlers as Ollie Robinson was the star for the visiting side. Australia suffered a mini-collapse and lost 4 wickets around lunch. But Travis Head ensured that Australian innings did not end prematurely as he stitched an invaluable 70 runs stand with captain Pat Cummins for the sixth wicket and remained unbeaten on 112 off just 95 balls at the end of the day's play.

Meanwhile, there was a major controversy at the Gabba around technology after the broadcaster, Channel 7 admitted that English allrounder Ben Stokes had overstepped 14 times but the on-field umpires called it a No-ball only twice. In an explanation, Cricket Australia accepted that the tech failed and the umpires did not notice the no-balls.
