Afghanistan to play first bilateral series after Taliban take-over

Afghanistan to play their first bilateral ODI series in 12 months when they host the Netherlands in Qatar next year.

The three-match ODI series will begin on January 21 followed by the second and third on January 23rd and 25th respectively. All the matches will be played at Asian Town Cricket Stadium in Doha.

Afghanistan is going through political turmoil after the Taliban took over power in September.

Afghanistan is scheduled to host Australia and Pakistan and then travel to India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka ahead of ODI World Cup 2023.

Currently, the three-match ODI series is the part of ICC Cricket World Cup Super League. The top seven teams on the points table will directly qualify for the 2023 ODI World Cup. India being the host of the tournament will qualify irrespective of their position on the leaderboard.
