Commonwealth Games 2022: PV Sindhu in hopes of elusive first place finish in Birmingham

India’s ace shuttler PV Sindhu would eye the elusive gold medal when she begins her campaign at this year’s Commonwealth Games.

One of the most decorated athletes of India, PV Sindhu already owns a bronze and a silver medal from the 2014 and 2018 editions of the quadrennial event.

The 27-year-old Hyderabad-based athlete who has emerged as India’s best bet for gold in the Women’s singles Badminton category will lead India’s women’s contingent at Birmingham 2022.

At Tokyo 2020, the star shuttler bagged the bronze medal to become the first Indian woman to win medals at 2 consecutive Olympics. Since then, PV Sindhu has had a glorious run. The World No. 7 though has not won any major title, she still has three victories under her name. She won Syed Modi International and Swiss Open BWF Super 300 titles and just before flying to Birmingham, Sindhu became only the second Indian women's shuttler to win the Singapore Open title as well.

While PV Sindhu who qualified for the marquee event through a league-based trial conducted by the Badminton Association of India in April owns a CWG gold in the mixed team event, her focus will now be on the yellow medal in the singles category.
