Biggest upset of T20 World Cup 2022: South Africa choke yet again as Netherlands win by 13 runs

Not many gave Netherlands much of a chance against a very strong-South Africa but the Dutch probably pulled off the biggest upset of T20 World Cup 2022 as they stun the Proteas by 13 runs in their final group game on Sunday.

South Africa choked yet again at the grandest stage of them all as India qualified for the semi-finals before their final group 2 game vs Zimbabwe.

Put into bat, Netherlands' openers gave their team a superb start, notching up 48 runs in the powerplay overs with Myburgh doing the bulk of the scoring. Markram broke the 58-run opening stand and sent the enforcer Myburgh back to the pavilion for 37.

The Proteas then pulled things back in the middle overs on the back of Anrich Nortje's economical spell. However, Ackermann played a blinder in the death, slamming 41 runs off 26 balls to propel the Netherlands to 158-4 in 20 overs.

Chasing the tricky target, the Netherlands rocked the Proteas with the wicket of Quinton de Kock. Captain Temba Bavuma failed to impress once again.

Chasing a tricky target, the Dutch rocked the Proteas early with the wicket of a dangerous Quinton de Kock. Captain Temba Bavuma failed to impress once again as South Africa found themselves at 39/2.

The Proteas never recovered from the early blows and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. From Rilee Rossouw to David Miller, all got starts but failed to prolong their innings and finally, they managed to score only 145 runs in 20 overs and were knocked out of the tournament.
