IPL 2022 Match 22 MI vs PBKS preview: Can Mumbai Indians finally score a win this season vs Punjab Kings?

It's been a tough road for 5-time Indian Premier League champions Mumbai Indians(MI) so far in the tournament as they've lost all 4 games so far. The next challenge for Rohit Sharma's team on Wednesday night is Punjab Kings as Mumbai Indians hunt for their maiden win of the season. Nothing seems to be working out for MI as they've struggled in all departments since the start of IPL 2022. The top order has been a problem due to inconsistency as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan seem to be not finding the rhythm to score runs.

The middle-order has the lone bright spot in the form of Suryakumar Yadav who has scored 120 runs in 2 games since his return from injury. The Spin department has been led by Murugan Ashwin who has failed to leave a mark this season. The pacers too have been terribly inconsistent as Mumbai Indians have paid the price for a relatively poor outing at the IPL 2022 Mega Auctions.

Punjab Kings(PBKS) on the other hand have been inconsistent too despite having one of the best teams in IPL 2022. The attacking mindset of the Kings has been on point but the results show a different story. With 2 wins and 2 losses in the 4 matches so far and Punjab Kings are in the bottom half of the points table. A lot will depend on Mayank Agarwal who needs to fire in order to give a good start to the team. Liam Livingstone has been on point this season with 162 runs in 4 games. Shikhar Dhawan too has had a good start to the season with 127 runs in 4 games. Rahul Chahar has been the pick of the bowlers from Punjab with 7 wickets and the presence of Kagiso Rabada in the ranks is also helping the Kings.

Head to Head record PBKS vs MI

In the 28 matches between the two sides in IPL, Mumbai Indians hold a slight edge with 15 wins as compared to 13 for Punjab.

PBKS vs MI Predicted Playing XI

Mumbai Playing XI (probable): Rohit Sharma (captain), Ishan Kishan (wicketkeeper), Suryakumar Yadav, Tilak Varma, Dewald Brevis, Kieron Pollard, Fabian Allen/Ramandeep Singh, Murugan Ashwin, Jasprit Bumrah, Tymal Mills/Jaydev Unadkat, Basil Thampi

Punjab Playing (probable): Mayank Agarwal (captain), Shikhar Dhawan, Jonny Bairstow (wicketkeeper), Liam Livingstone, Shahrukh Khan, Jitesh Sharma/Rishi Dhawan, Odean Smith/Nathan Ellis, Kagiso Rabada, Rahul Chahar, Varun Arora, Arshdeep Singh.
