Sukhbir Badal cancels Punjab Bachao Yatra programmes for one day in solidarity with farmers

Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) President Sukhbir Singh Badal today announced the cancellation of Punjab Bachao Yatra programmes for one day tomorrow in solidarity with farmers and farm labourers.

“Saving the farmers and farm laborers and their interests has always remained and will continue to remain the top priority of every Akali leader and worker. SAD is the largest democratic political voice of the farmers and has always remained in the forefront of safeguarding their vital interests. Our governments have implemented historic and path breaking measures for the welfare of farmers. This tradition will continue," said Mr Sukhbir Badal in a statement this afternoon.

The Punjab Bachao Yatra which had been receiving an overwhelming response from all Punjabis , especially the farmers, was scheduled to resume tomorrow at Faridkot. In view of Mr Badal’s decision today, that program stands cancelled as of now.

Badal has convened an Emergency meeting of the SAD Core Committee at party HQs in Chandigarh at 2.00 PM tomorrow (Thursday) to discuss the prevailing situation.
