SAD alleges large-scale registration of 'bogus votes' for SGPC elections

The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) has raised serious concerns about the registration of "bogus votes" for the upcoming Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) elections. A delegation of senior SAD leaders met the Chief Commissioner of the Gurdwara Elections Commission, Justice (retd) Surinder Singh Saron, on Thursday to address the issue.

The delegation, comprising SAD working president Balwinder Singh Bhundar, former president Sukhbir Singh Badal, SGPC chief Harjinder Singh Dhami, and senior leader Daljit Singh Cheema, demanded a thorough scrutiny of voter lists to eliminate irregularities.

Speaking to the media, Daljit Singh Cheema alleged large-scale discrepancies in voter registration. “Thousands of bogus votes have been registered, including names without the mandatory 'Singh' or 'Kaur' suffixes,” he claimed. He also noted that lists of genuine votes were reportedly missing.

Cheema emphasized the need for transparency and accountability in the electoral process and called for an immediate review of the voter lists.

The Gurdwara Elections Commission has not yet announced the schedule for the SGPC elections, but the allegations have already sparked concerns over the credibility of the upcoming polls.
